WHAT ARE WATER SOFTENERS?

Most areas in the UK have Hard Water and this causes limescale. Water softeners are required to help prevent limescale build up on your glasswasher and dishwasher equipment. Limescale can be a major source of faults with equipment and is not covered under warranty.

The known areas that have soft water are Scotland, most of Wales, Central Manchester and Central Birmingham and shouldn't require a softener however we still recommend you check your water type as this is only a guide.

Three softener verions are available for either cold, hot or very hot water temperatures although it is unlikely you would require a very hot softener.

You can purchase either manual or automatic softeners. Manual being the cheaper option. However manual softeners do require rinsing on a regular basis, approximately once a week depending on brand and usage. This involves disconnecting, flushing through, replenishing salts and reconnecting. Failiure to do this regularly will lead to limescale build up. The automatic machines only require topping up the salt and do not require any manual cleaning. It is generally recommended that automatic softeners are used with hood type dishwashers or very busy kitchens due to the amount of useage.
